DJI Mavic Pro - First Flight
Mount Lemmon - Tucson, AZ
I purchased the DJI Mavic Pro a few weeks ago during Cyber Monday and finally got around to flying it yesterday. We just had a snow storm come through the Catalina's so my friend Austin and I headed up to Mount Lemmon with hopes of capturing it. Unfortunately most the snow had melted at lower elevations and there was no way we were going to reach Summerhaven in time for sunset, so we headed to one of my other favorite spots instead.
After a short hike through the trees and up a hill...we were surrounded by a ton of hoodoo rock formations. We only had about an hour before sunset so I began to assemble the drone and turn it on for the first time. It wasn't the most ideal place for a test flight (high altitudes, cold weather, rushing to capture sunset) but I've flown drones before so I relied on my experience to guide me. I quickly attached the propellers and ran through the checklist and was finally ready to fly....until I got a firmware update warning. The drone and apps needed about 300mbs worth of updates before I could even take off. I was very lucky I had 4G up there and started the downloads.
The apps finally updated and the Mavic was in the air. I was instantly amazed at how stable the drone was as it hovered in front of me. I was also super impressed with its functionality as well as image quality. Waaaay better than my previous 3DR Solo set up! I'm excited to test out more of the features and start doing some aerial long exposures!
A small collection of clips from my first drone flight with the DJI Mavic Pro. I unfortunately only had 1 battery with me so my time was very limited (25 minutes) but I'm very impressed with the functionality and image quality of this drone! Shot in 4K atop Mt. Lemmon in Tucson, AZ and edited in Adobe Premiere. Music by Isaac Hananiah
